Elizabeth Black, LCSW
Founder / Clinical Social Worker
Hi! I’m Elizabeth, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and founder of Prismatic Counseling, LLC.
I could be listing my degrees and licenses here. But, I’m guessing you’re less interested in my degrees than you are in my therapeutic approach.
I believe that therapy is a personal thing, and no two therapeutic journeys are the same. And no two therapists are the same. I believe that there needs to be a solid relationship between a therapist and client. And that relationship is fostered through honesty and respect. I strive to approach everyone from a judgement-free place. There are a multitude of reasons you may be considering therapy, and I am here to give you the space to explore whatever motivated you to start this process.
For over a decade, I have provided services to adolescents and adults, and those who work with them, to help them identify their emotions, and work through them, returning to a fulfilled, and successful life. This may be through changing patterns of behavior, beliefs or your relationship to things like drugs and alcohol. I believe no therapy is effective if it doesn’t have buy-in from my clients, and I strive to provide a safe place for my clients to have a voice, and to be heard. My experience includes working with individuals struggling with substance use disorder and I approach this from a harm reduction perspective. Whether your goal is total sobriety or redefining your relationship alcohol or drugs, I am here to support you getting to a healthy place.
My role in the therapeutic process is to show up and meet you where you are at, whether you are just starting in therapy or have been on your therapeutic journey for years. Therapy does not come with black and white, right or wrong ways to do it. I will work with you, in a safe and empathic space to express whatever you are feeling and experiencing. I believe everyone can benefit from having support on their therapeutic journey, and no one should have to go it alone. Schedule a free consultation with me today and see if I will be a good fit for your journey.
Now that I’ve explained my therapeutic style, in case you REALLY want to know, let’s talk about my educational background. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Troy University while I was on active duty in the Army. I went on to obtain my Master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers in 2019. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, as well as Clinical Hypnosis, and have done training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Through the years, I have worked in a variety of settings, from residential group homes to in-home family-based services and community-based Intensive Outpatient Programs. For the last several years before opening my own practice, I worked with individuals with Substance Use Disorder, both in and out of the court system in New Orleans.
